Specialist Marbocyl: 4th antibiotic in 3 weeks!

Hi everyone
I've been looking at some old threads about Marbocyl and URIs.
My boar started with a very mild URI (I caught it so early 2 vets didn't believe me) and so for the past 3 weeks it's been a nightmare getting him treated with the lockdown.
I finally managed to get an exotics in my area to see him and they gave him Doxycycline, which totally cleared up his URI.
The problem is, before the 10 days of his treatment with it were up, he developed terrible diarrhea.
So the vet gave me Marbocyl yesterday.
It completely cleared up the diarrhea in 24 hours.
Now, of course, his URI seems to be coming back (I can see his sides starting to heave again).
Anyone have experience with Marbocyl? How long does it usually take to work?
If you are wondering why I don't ask my exotics vet, it's because they have one exotics specialist in because of the pandemic, and she's not working today (Saturday).

Hi!

Strong antibiotics and so many antibiotics will inevitably have an impact on the gut bacteria as well as the bacteria in the lungs, so diarrhea or loss of appetite are not at all uncommon. You have to take your piggy off any fresh food and step in with syringing feeding. Please weigh daily instead of weekly and tailor any necessary support feeding according to that.
If you have a healthy companion, try to prop up the gut with always freshly made 'poo soup' (i.e. live healthy gut microbiome transfer).

Antibiotics take usually 1-2 days to kick in fully. Marbocyl is related to baytril; it is a stronger form of it. All you can do at this stage is to hang in it. I don't assume that any of the vets has sent off a swab for a test as to what antibiotic your piggy is actually responding to? It seems that respiratory illnesses are becoming an area where individual responses can vary a lot.
If necessary contact your general vets and discuss with them.

Thanks for all your help a few weeks back - I waited for the marbocyl to kick in and it worked, plus his tummy troubles disappeared.
Sadly, this vets (only exotics in my area) once again messed up the dosages (they keep sending me away with less ml than I need) and he didn't do the full 14 days on it (I think just around 9). I'd had such a nightmare getting them to help me in the first place, I didn't call and ask for more. I stupidly thought since he was better he'd stay that way.
Now it's come back again and he's back on the Marbocyl (.7 ml once a day) but it's slow to take effect this time.
When it took him in (same vet) she suggested taking both boys (the other for company) to the vets for a FULL day so they can X-ray his lungs with anaesthetic.
I've asked to have a second exotics at the same place - that sounded really traumatising for them.#
They get terrified just going in the car!
Thanks for any advice you may have - I think I've just been unlucky with vets because of the pandemic

I am very sorry about your problem. Please hang on in there and see contact the treating vet again if there is no improvement within a week. Contact them promptly if there is a noticeable deterioration.
