Hello, I’m new to the forum and have recently become the owner of 2 piggies! Sadly although young shadow one of my pigs has malocclusion which were told has been through genetics and has recently had his teeth filed and isn’t very well at the moment we’re hoping he’ll be himself again soon. He’s currently syringe feed and has his water that way to, I think due to the issue with his teeth he isn’t drinking with the metal teat well on his water bottle and wondered if anyone had any options for alternative water bottles with maybe a less harsh teat? Maybe plastic or a rubber he wouldn’t be able to chew through. I also wondered if anyone has experienced malocclusion with their guinea pig and what was the outcome? I’ve had a few bits of advice and what we can do but it’s early days and they want him to put on weight and finish his antibiotics before moving onto to anything else and discussing further, I’ll fight for him endlessly. Any advice would be so appreciated thank you.

try a bowl perhaps? though i never saw my girl drink once when she was having issues with her teeth so you may have to syringe a little water along with his feeds.

Thank you ever so much I did think maybe a bowl just we haven’t been successful with blended food with the bowl although it may be diff with water I’ll give it a try :) we are currently doing his water with the syringe at feed times. Did your guinea pig recover well from the teeth problems?

try giving it on a spoon as they like to lick the mushed food off that sometimes. ahh okay thats good then :)
It all depends on the issue... so my girl had an abscess which was drained and she seems to have recovered from, but she now has problems with her lower teeth pointing downward and causing food etc to become trapped, which can therefore cause more infections so I'm back in a few weeks to see where to go from there but its not the best news. others i have heard can recover very well from teeth issues.
