Hello,

We have had our 2 male piggys for 13 days now, one of the pigs seems to be acting rather unusually around the other. He will almost look like he is mounting the other pig and will also move very slowly around him and then either run around crazy on his own or run after the other pig. i will add a video to show.

Very cute lil piggies :)

It looks like a sign of dominance. If you have only had them for 13 days they maybe havent established who's top dog yet. :)

I agree with Stacey. It does look like dominant behavior.

These stickies many help you -

This is a guide to acceptable boar behavior, 'Mounting (from all angles - head, side and rear!) and chasing or chasing and mounting combined' which is what i'd say your boys are doing is described as 'Normal Dominance/Getting-To-Know-You Behaviour'

Thank you very much for your responses, They seem to be settling in very well and getting more confident. We had a little idea it was about dominance but just wanted some confirmation as we are new owners.

They were brought from a pet shop and were both sitting next to each other so we took them. Sadly when we got them home we saw that one of our little boys had his eye stuck closed and was sneezing ALOT, We took them to the vet and they are both now on antibiotics diagnosed with Upper Respitory infection. They are doing VERY well, They are like different pigs from the first week. Now they get round the clock attention a little too much i think hehe.

Complaints have been made to the pet shop ( Pets at home UK )

We did however get our vet bill refunded from them.

Just wanted to add, please can an eye out for any bullying (stopping the other pig from getting into houses/food bowls etc) Also, many people have two of each thing with boars, ie - 2 water bottles, 2 food bowls. The bigger the space the better too as when you approach the hormonal stage boars can be a bit tricky!
