I have 2 male guinea pigs 5 months old in my bedroom living together. My question is that I offered to adopted a pair of 1 year old females. Can they live in the same bedroom that my males live in or can that cause my males to fight each other because they can smell or hear the females in the same bedroom? The males will remain in their own cage and the females will have their own cage and they will never be out at the same time even with supervision, so they will never meet face to face.

Another question. Can I keep 2 males in one cage and then another 2 males in another cage in the same bedroom?

You can definitely keep two groups of boars in the same room, I’ve never had a problem. Not sure about a mix of boars and sows, but am likely to find out soon as I’m about to get two sows who will live in the same room as two boars. I’ll keep you posted!

I've never done it but know that it can be done. Theres something about making sure that the boars are out of reach of sow pheromones so I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable pops along to answer properly for you soon

Hi!

Introducing sows into a room with boars is always tricky, but never more so when you have two boars right at the time when their testosterone output is at an all time high (around 6 months, but the teenage months last from ca. 4-14 months). It is the female pheromones that set the boars off. This age is the most inconvenient for introducing sows.
I would strongly recommend to keep the sow pair in another room if at all possible or at least as far away from the boys as possible, with the boys on a higher level (again because of the pheromones).

Sows should be always out of direct sight/reach of pheromones of boars unless they grow up with their presence but even then it can lead to fall-outs especially in teenage boys.

I’m no expert however in my room I have a herd of 4 sows, and another herd of 6 boars and it’s been this way for over a year now and I’ve never once had an issue with a fight or anything else like that so I feel like I can definitely be done?
As I said I’m far from an expert so the other ladies commenting have a better idea than I do. Best of luck in whatever you do! :)
