Hello.
Have had a neutered boar for around 6 months and decided he needed a friend, so rescued a female.
The boar is about 1.5-2years old, been neutered 6month.
Female just under a year.
He was initially rehomed for showing ‘agression’ to other boars he was living with and to the owner.

I introduced them on Wednesday evening on neural territory, not a Not happened and they sat quite still (seemingly both terrified) under a hidey together. I chose to put them in the age together after a few hours (rightly or wrongly).

They are in a 2x4 c&c.

Now they are getting on ok, lots of rumble strutting from him and marking, trying to mount her (but never really doing so), she’s pretty chilled out. Will tell him to back off, but nothing aggressive. She follows him around and he lets her, just rumbles.

They eat at the same bowl and from tge same hay pile.

Just wondering if this sounds normal, or whether the rumbling should be settling down by now? I’ve no experience of a mix sex pair previously. I don’t think either of them are dominant, he’s trying but not following through?

Help?

It sounds brilliant. Boys rumblestrut to let the ladies know how masculine they are,so he might keep doing it, but it's very mild behaviour. Congratulations on a successful bonding x

I agree, sounds like they are getting along just fine!

Colin used to rumblestrut around Hettie but she ignored him!

Males can carry on rumblestrutting all their lives. My late Peter used to do it even when he was 7 years old! Females can do it too when they are in season or trying to extert some authority. However the initial bonding usually continues for a couple of weeks so as long as there's no aggression just let them do their thing :)

Christian loves doing the sexy bum wiggle at the ladies to show what an attractive piggie he is. He does it all the time.

Hi! That sounds very normal!

You may find our very detailed bonding guide helpful; it discusses various bonding dynamics and scenarios, including mixed gender bonding and what are the signs of a successful/failed bonding at every stage.
Bonding: Illustrated Dominance Behaviours And Dynamics

When a sow is not in season, she may accept some initial mounting as a sign of acceptance if she is submissve; if she is dominant, she will keep the boar at bay.
