Hi all. My male boar Milo, will be 5 in October this year. He was fine all day and went out on grass for some playtime.

He’s come back inside and he keeps laying on his side and squeaking like he’s in pain. I’ve examined him and he seems to be ok.... he’s had some critical care and went crazy for it. He’s been grinding his teeth while I was holding him against me on my chest which he always loves. I can hear he’s grinding his teeth a lot (and no, it’s not chattering, definitely grinding).

He usually sits up up his food and keeps laying down when offered something but is eating it. I’ve given him 0.4ml of metacam dog strength and he’s Pooping and weeing as normal. Is now eating hay!

His weight was 1425g two and a half weeks ago and today is 1369g.

Should I just keep an eye on him or take him vets as emergency

I would have him seen by an emergency vet - the squeaking and teeth grinding can indicate pain.
Is his tummy used to grass? How long was he on it today?

Switch to weighing him daily and topping him up with critical care if necessary. It’s a 56g weight loss which is at the point you’d want to start to watch more closely

Teeth grinding is often a sign of pain so it is certainly worrying.
The fact he is eating is good.
Was today his first time out on the lawn this year?
Rich spring grass can cause bloat if not introduced slowly, so I would consider having him seen by a vet to rule out serious problems.

No today was not his first time on grass this year (he went out a month ago when it was sunny and warm). He’s used to the grass here as he used to be an outdoor Guineas work access to grass. I just bring him inside autumn until spring but he’s been an indoor piggie for over a year now. I’ll take him vets, thank you 🙏🏼

He was on it for 15 mins. It got cold so we bought him inside
