Hi everyone.

I am in the process of ordering my first C&C cage for the guinea pigs. I want something fairly large as I want to split it into two to keep boars and sows separate but able to socialise. I have been looking at the following ready-prepared cage:

2 x 6 Grid Cage | C and C Guinea Pig Cages

Although this would be easier as a first time cage due to it coming ready to assemble, this is the biggest cage they do on the website. However, the attic space (fully converted) where we keep the pigs has a larger area available which I would like to make use of. Therefore, I would really like to make something more sizeable, especially as it will be getting split. I have found a starter kit on eBay with the grids and connectors which would have enough for the size of enclosure I want to make. However, the correx is presenting a problem. Getting several smaller sheets seems quite easy but finding one continuous piece which is large enough for the base is proving difficult.

In a nutshell, my question is this: Can I piece together several smaller pieces of Correx or do I need a single piece for the floor of the cage? I don't want to end up with issues with safety or with mess getting through to the floor as there will be a carpet underneath.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

Would this be ok?

You would still have around 150mm spare at each end to fold up to me the sides.

So I called sign companies and everything when trying to find correx but couldn't find a big enough sheet. I did lots of math and figueres out how many smalle ones I needed and duck taped them together from the outside/bottom. I added some along the inside in areas I thought they would pee a lot but I have made due with only smaller peices, it may take a bit longer but it still works

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the reply. This is the largest I could find too. If I was to make my own without the kit, however, I would want to make a 7 x 3 cage. This would be about 2520 x 1080. So the width would probably be ok but it is the length which is causing the issue. I'm wondering whether I can piece together or 'patch up' or whether this will cause problems.

Thanks. I think it's looking like I will need to do something similar.

I have added to a 4x2 setup before with no issues, I would tape it up on the outside instead of the inside just incase the little munchkins decide to start eating the tape :))

My piggies like to chew/eat masking tape so I would also recommend the outside! Although there is some on the bottom of their cage which is always covered in bedding and they never bother with that.

And they will chew the tape, a fact of life lol. Use 6mm spine biders on the correx edges to prevent the little buggers chewing the correx away to ground level.

I'd put it on top of a piece of lino/shower curtain or something to protect your carpets just in case, but if it is well taped it should be fine.
