Please can anyone link me to a really good tutorial for making a c&c cage with a loft please?
I need to know basic things like:
- Do I need grids under the correx for the floor/floor of the loft?
- How do I attach the correx to the cage?
- Do piggles need the full height of the grid or can I make the loft part way down the lower grid to make a shorter ramp?
- What's the best, safest way to bend grids?
- Any potential pitfalls to avoid?

Thank you!

Sorry I can't give you a link, but I can try to answer your questions.

-You will need correx for the floor of the loft, but it would need to be on top of the grids, not under (otherwise they're walking on wire)
- I attached the correx to the cage by poking holes in it and using cable ties. If it fits well though, you can get away without attaching it. I only attached it on the bits where I felt it was needed.
- You can make your loft part way down, but you would probably need to build another height of grid, just for safety, so they don't fall out.
- Sorry, I've never bent grids, but I would suggest putting a piece of wood or something along the line you want to bend them and 'foldiing' the grid.
- Measure twice, cut once. I was a bit keen, and did the scoring on the wrong bit. I managed to salvage it all though.

You should have a look at the thread for homemade cages (start at the end though, as most of the old posts have had the pictures removed).

Good luck. If you need any more help, I'm happy to share my limited expertise lol.

Someone told me you can use guttering with carpet tiles for grip for the ramp, when I make mine I was thinking of doing this rather than bending a panel.

Sorry I can't help, I'm still in the process of buying all my bits.

Keep us updated for how you get on xx

- Do I need grids under the correx for the floor/floor of the loft?
It doesn't have to be a grid, but you need something to support the correx. If the correx is at least 4mm thick. The support doesn't have to be the whole floor. See the photos on this page for an example.
Piggy Patio - a mid-grid upper level for C&C Cages
(Not trying to sell these, you can use wood or curtain rods for support)

- How do I attach the correx to the cage?
You don't have to attach it. The tray just sits inside the cage and it can be removed. If you want to attach a piece of correx to a ramp, you can poke holes in the correx and cable/zip tie it to the grids.

- Do piggles need the full height of the grid or can I make the loft part way down the lower grid to make a shorter ramp?
They do not need the full height. The ceiling needs to be at least 6 inches.

- What's the best, safest way to bend grids?
Look for the welded mark and make sure it's not on the side. It will snap if it's on the side. You can step on the grid (with your shoes on) or put a piece of lumber across the grid. Then pull the far side up towards yourself.

- Any potential pitfalls to avoid?
Measure twice, cut once.

If you're going to build the cage like the link I posted, you'll need to make higher walls for the loft, or add a roof over that section. Otherwise your piggies can hop out and fall.

When making the loft, I'd fasten it 2/3 the way up the grid, so the ceiling is 9-10" high. This way the ramp will be nice and shallow. I think our ramps are15" long.

Thank you everyone!

Level 1 is complete, a 2.5x2.5 square and we will be working on the upstairs over the next few days!

I will try to work out how to upload pictures when it is done.
