i have a hutch which is two story but the bottom has no bottom so that it can sit on the grass
however my guineas get very mucky and I'm not reallt keen on that bit of the hutch my hutch is only a few months old
so wont be allowed to get a new one as money is tight

so was thinking how about i got some wood to fix a bottom to it
with thickish wood so the bottom had a bottom
ive also been thinking of putting that lino sticky plastic stuff on the bottom so its easier to clean too

id like to keep them indoors but hubby will not allow due to space etc
so ill just have to make it better outdoors for them

Get some MDF 12mm should do the trick I think, weather treat it , cut it to size for the hutch, screw in place and then add legs of atleast 6 inches to get the hutch off the ground :-)

I'm taking a guess your hutch is like this

and you want it more like this

yeah similar has a pointy roof
and no bottom where the ramp goes down to
so was hoping for a bottom so that it then looked like this
yes i would need legs but doubt it would cost much to do
less than a new hutch!

its just getting the materials and cutting it all that will be tricky.

about 10 for the MDF, 10 for stuff to spray it with, screws, stuff to make legs with another few pound and then its just time :-)

I'd look at plywood rather than MDF - not sure how MDF would react to being on an outside run, where it could get damp.

I'm not sure how to make a bum!?
but I'm definatley making a bottom soon
i though mdf might get wet and like go soggy and mash-y over time
so ply wood is better yes?

if protected properly I'm sure either would be fine. Either would need treating with protector and would still need a plastic floor putting in the level

I'm talking full varnish type stuff and lino covering

finally got the bottom onto the cage yesterday and they are now raised up off the floor kinda glad with all thos rain we have had in the north east today
they seem to love it!
