Hi everyone, newbie here looking for advice from the piggie experts.

I've got 2 3 year old girls, currently in a 4x2 c&c cage. I'm moving house and there simply won't be the space for their current cage indoors in my new place. I really, really don't want them to move outside so wondered if I could convert my mahogany sideboard into a hutch. It'll give a good amount of floor space (similar to they have now), allow better storage on top and in the drawers and will fit in the house, but I think the mahogany would be toxic if chewed.

Do you think if I lined the wood section with something non-toxic like corex so they couldn't access the wood that it would be safe?

Thanks! I was actually thinking of wire to improve ventilation, but could do glass/Perspex if the idea has legs. Glad you think it could work well.

The wire would be great, better in act especially as they will be indoor, assuming it has a lip on the bottom and then run your correx or similar up the front bit to save the wood and any loose bedding disappearing through the gaps.

Hi, sorry for the slow response has been a bit mental - Dill's been in for a dental but vomited/aspirated under the GA (I'll start a separate thread on that). Glad you think my plan's going to work, once I get her better (hopefully) I'll get started with the conversion!
