Hi
I have adopted a piggy 3 weeks ago and realise that he has a lump under his chin last night. After googling I suspect that is an abscess. I booked the vet already, just wondering how much does it normally cost for the treatment in uk?
Thank you x

It would depend on which vet you used at which practise and what treatment piggy had it varies a lot. Abscesses are usually lanced and drained which is cheaper than capsule removal which involves an operation. When one of my piggies had an abscess in his neck I opted for removal so it was over and done with and wouldn't involve me cleaning it out daily. Peanut was a piggy who hated to be handled. It would be best to see the vet and get a diagnosis and treatment price, it may not be an abscess and the treatment would then be different.

It is going to vary depending on what the lump actually is, what treatment is needed - whether it can be dealt with via antibiotics (and painkillers)) or whether it needs to be sorted out surgically - plus the costs of aftercare. All vets also have their own charging structures so their prices all vary.

Hello neighbour. I’m in Swindon.

Welcome to the forum.

First of all it’s great that you have booked a vet appointment. Once you have the correct diagnosis people will be able to offer their own experiences.

I’ve had a piggy with a tooth root abscess. I took him up to a fantastic vet in Northampton. They were brilliant as my local vet hospital wouldn’t do the procedure and referred me to a local specialist who wanted about £250 for the first appointment and then they wanted over £1,000 for a scan. The vets in Northampton did it for about £500.

Good luck at the vets. Let us know how you get on.
