i have a piggie who has lumps on his nose which is scarily close to covering one nostril….appointment has been made to see the vet, but jut wondered if something like that can be removed or lanced? Has anyone else had this happen before?

I don't have any experience with this but providing a picture, if possible, may make it easier for other members to give advice/understand what would work for your specific case.
Does it look like spots? Their nasal canals are very sensitive so it is good you've booked an appointment already.

I have my fingers crossed your appointment goes well. x

Hi

Unfortunately, sight unseen we cannot comment. There are several different growths that can happen on the nose.
Your vet will in any case make a treatment proposition after a close hands-on examination and after carefully weighing up the risks and advantages of all possible options.

Only your vet can tell, but my late Muffin had several small lumps on his nose. We tried to remove the first one. It came right back.
In his case it worked best to ignore them. One was close to a nostril, but it didn't cause any harm.
I hope your piggy won't have too much of a problem with the lumps.

Update: I have added 2 pics 1st one shows roughly what it looked like but I took a close look and was able to peel it off. So 2nd pic shows after I removed it. It was quite large and covering one nostril. It peeled off like a scab would. But it is strange. His weight is about 1.2kg so is low still since his op as before op he was 1.4kg. Poor thing is 6 in June

Hi
I am so glad that it was just something fluid/sticky dried on and stuck to the nose. It does happen. Especially boys have a tendency to stick their noses into some somewhat unsavoury places.

At this age, piggies rarely regain their pre-op or pre-illness weight; it is part of the normal ageing process that we also see in older people. He is however still a solid body weight.

Took cookie to the vets. He has a skin infection on his nose plus I saw he had discharge coming from his eye last night…turned out he had a hidden piece of hay right under his bottom eye lid that I could not see and was pretty large 😳😲. The vet took it out and I have to give him eye drops twice a day for that. For his nose I have been given small bottle of the vet’s antiseptic which I dilute with 10parts water for his nose

Poor boy! But I am glad that it is nothing major wrong with him. It must be a real relief to you as well.

Glad you got him seen and that bit of hay has been removed - they're so sneaky!
He'll be feeling much better now that's out and his nose is on the mend! 😁
