Hi everyone. My gp cookie has been to the vet today due to a large lump outside of his body on the bottom area near his glands. The vet told me that it looked like a wart. I have been given solution to keep the area clean but if it doesn’t help then he would have to have an operation 😕 do piggies get warts? Has anyone else had this issue? I am not sure whether to have the op or leave it. Cookie is almost 5

Warts aren’t common in guinea pigs but my late Eliza had one on the back of her neck. We just kept an eye on it as was only small and it wasn’t causing her any problems. I would keep an eye on Cookie and consider having it removed if it starts to look sore / affect his mobility. Is your vet sure it’s a wart and not an abscess or cyst?

She took one look at it and said she thinks it’s a wart due to the look of it. It’s big but the fur covers it. Vet said that if the op went ahead then they could send it off to check what it is.

Eliza’s fur didn’t cover her wart and like I say, it was only small. I’d be inclined to have a second opinion as it could be anything. This was Eliza’s wart
