Hi! Our piggy has a lump the size of a grap. It's located under the jaw, if you imagine sticking your finger through a mans adams apple, that's where the lump is.

The vet took xrays of his jaw, because it's very large and not normal, but it was not causing him any pain. The vet did not mention the lump, could she have missed it?

His teeth and bite are normal. He is underweight, but eats a lot every day in addition to us giving him critical care. Gained 40g over night, so we are hope for the best.

Anyone who has been through the same?

(He is now on antibiotics)

Thankful for all help and answers

I would recommend to have the lump investigated; it could be an abscess or a swollen lymph node, but only a vet can tell. There should not be any lumps on the neck.

Thank you ❤️ How would a lymph node be treated? And can they grow in the matter of days?

Both can come up very quickly; any quick growing lump should be seen promptly. If you have noticed a potential problem, please always mention it to your vet and draw their attention to it; don't expect them to find it when they are looking for something else.

An abscess just under the skin is generally lanced. With a lymph node it depends on whether the swelling is caused by an infection or by cancer (lymphoma), which has become more frequent in the last few years. The latter is unfortunately not treatable.

I had a piggy have a lump removed under his chin a couple of months back now. It was two small abscesses and a fatty lump. The vet did x-rays to check that there wasn't a problem with the teeth and did an operation to remove them. He recovered quickly and barely lost weight as a result. The sooner lumps are checked out the better chance of a quick and easily resolution

Thanks for sharing! We are going on a check-up this week, so I hope it'll be sorted then ❤️ I'm glad your piggy did okay ❤️

Ok, So I am on day 25 post dx lump under jaw, on xray well seen with some calcification, under neck of my female senior Piglet, Girlfriend. Sent home after seeing exotic vet 10 days ago(weight loss, 8n oz,.Increased pain and discomfort).happy to say with round clock feedings, she gained back 7 of 8 oz. I have meloxacam, antibiotic and pain meds for her plus stimulate for appetite. She wont drink her water, bottle or dish so i syringe feed her pedialyte and she loves it. I call her my fighter pilot girl. She gets swelling in her trachea resulting in a little krackle noise...I did ultrasound of this unchanging Marble mass, (I am Sonographer , RDMS of many years)it is a solid complex mass(not abscess)..ones first pick is Lymphosarcoma most common, Vet agress......but if she is fighting should I gamble and have it removed will be what i ponder this next week before we see vet again. Its so hard...i make sure she is not suffering..i do pain meds if I see her breathing increase and I'm not sure what she is experiencing but the Tramadol works great. So Vet sent us home, hospice care but again..she is hanging in! her male cage mate(she is spayed) has his moments, just squeels and complains now and again...i think he is venting..he knows she is different, sleeps more(pain meds) but we did spa hour, bath and blow dry a few days ago and she was like back to normal for that day for sure! maybe its a benign mass? either way..it causes her anxiety , I can tell. Ok, ive been raising g pigs past 12 yrs, out of 6 total, 1 with cancer at 8.5 yrs, she will be my second if thats what it is. Both she and cagemate will be 6 in june! its so hard, if only they could talk! God Bless vets and the power of prayer!
