Hello everyone.

My piggy Maisie had a cheek lump removed 2 weeks ago and everything seemed to go ok.

The only issue we have now is that the area where the lump was removed is now filling up into another softer lump, but this time I’ve been told it’s blood. This was drained out on Monday but it seems to be slowly coming back again. She’s eating normally and is her normal cheeky self. She has put all her weight back on that she lost post op.

The vet said she may need to go under again to see if it’s a blood vessel issue if it keeps filling up. I don’t want her to suffer if it can be left alone. Has anyone ever had a similar issue?

I just want her to be ok x

Hello. Sorry but I don’t have any experience of this. I’m bumping your thread up so hopefully someone will see it and reply with some advice soon.

Hi and welcome

It sounds like a haematoma/hematoma? I.e. where blood escapes after an operation or injury to from a lump under the skin.

They are harmless in themselves and often dissolve on their own eventually unless they are too big; but your vet is worried that in this case there may be some ongoing bleeding from a rip in a blood vessel, which would need to be addressed.
The second operation should hopefully not be as bad or last as long as the first.

All the best.

It sound like a seroma! This is a collection of fluid, under the skin, where a lump has been removed. The body should reabsorb it, after a while. No further surgery should be needed.
Thank you! I’m going to research this x
