I have my boy Scooby, 5 1/2 years old, at the vets this morning. He has a large lump to the side of his jaw, which we thought was an abscess. Vet was going to drain it but has found there's nothing to drain, and that there's 'no cells'.

We have to pick him up in a few hours so will try to ascertain more info, but it means there's something else going on with this lump. Apparently it's in the place where guinea pigs' lymph nodes are, which means it could be any number of things like an infection, and at worst, I'm dreading a cancerous tumour.

I think he's going to be put on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory (I'm guessing baytril and Metacam), as an attempt to reduce any infection as a first attempt before removing, I guess.

Is there something you think he may possibly have? What would be most likely?

Hi there, I found a lump in the same kind of area on my Roddy. It wasn't an abscess it was a growth of some sort. We didn't have it sent away to be tested but the vet took a look at it herself and said it was a hair growth molecule. She didn't know if it was cancerous or not but We had it removed. Roddy had bay trial and metacam which did nothing hence why we had it removed. Hope all goes well when you go back. Do keep us updated. Fingers crossed it's nothing serious!
