Hello everyone,

We recently adopted two new boys and have noticed that one of them has developed a lump/cut on his testicles/anal sac area. Other than this we haven't noticed any other problems, as he is still eating, drinking, pooping and running around just fine.

Is it normal for them to just catch themselves on things or is this something we should look into?

We have contacted the vets but they are very busy at the moment and said if he otherwose fine then it is not an emergency.

Thanks in advance!

Ps I have attached a photo of said lump/cut

Please have that seen by a vet. It can be an abscess brewing. Can you have him seen by tomorrow?

Thanks for responding!

We have rang our usual vets and explained the situation and they still aren't booking us in as they say it's not an emergency and they're fully booked. We're thinking of trying a different vets to see if they can fit us in instead. We might have to just get an emergency appointment if needs be.

Is there any thing that we can do for it In the meantime?

There is not much you can do at this stage, as creams won't penetrate far enough and he likely needs an antibiotic. It is NOT an emergency yet, but you do not want it to blow up really badly if you can help it.

It is much easier to help you with local tips etc. if you please added your country, state/province or UK county to your details so it shows up below your username on the left in every post you make; that will allow us to tailor any advice automatically. We have got members from all over the world. Click on your username on the top bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location.
Here is our recommended UK vets locator from the top bar, but we can provide a link to recommended vets in some other countries if wished.

You have had some great advice from Wiebke, and if you got them from a rescue then I would give them a call and ask which vet they use.
If the vet is used to dealing with guinea pigs, than you shouldn't have to justify needing an appointment.

Thanks for the help!
We've managed to get an appointment at another vets tomorrow after I explained that we're worried about it being an abscess.

We're from the UK, sorry I don't know why it's not already in my profile but I'll add it in now!

The rescue place does have a vets attached to it and it is them telling us that it's not an emergency so they cannot see us anytime soon (as you can imagine they are very busy as they are a rescue centre).

Hopefully nothing will change overnight and I'll post an update once we know what it is!

how has your little guy been doing? hope everything is okay :j
