I have a pig who is very prone to squishy poops and has had a few run-ins with bloat. I'm aware that it's very painful so my first thought is always to give him some painkillers asap.

My local, extremely not pig savvy vet (that's a whole different topic...) has warned me that oral loxicom can cause bloating and therefore make the problem worse. I'm inclined to ignore him completely but I just wanted to check. Is he right? Or is loxicom fine for bloated piggies?

Hi

Loxicom/metacam doesn't cause bloating and doesn't make any bloating worse in guinea pigs in my own experience.

And generally piggies tolerate taking it very well. Actually that's a total understatement as a lot of them LOVE it, I think they get a bit addicted....

I've got 2 elderly arthritic boars on Metacam for life, they've been on it twice a day since October 2022 and love it. They run to the edge of the cage ready for it as soon as I walk in the room with the syringe. If I'm late they bite the bars to remind me it's time. I'm sure they think it's a special treat.

Metacam/loxicom etc. has got a little honey mixed in because it needs to still go down when everything else won't. It is also an extremely safe medication.

My arthritic oldies also love it and tolerate high dosages for the long term. Guine pig kidneys tolerate it a lot better than other pet species.
