Hi all
My little boy pig (Flower - named by my daughter) has been bitten by his hutch mate. We discovered this late last night and he had a cut to his nose and another inside his mouth. I have taken him to our local vets this aftenoon and they have prescribed Baytril Oral Suspension 2.5% (0.4ml one daily) and Loxocom 1.5mg /ml (dog version) (0.44ml once per day).
He seems ok in himself although a little sore - is still eating although slightly tentatively.
The reason for checking in is the vet origionally prescribesd 1.75ml of the dog Loxicom. Although I have never given Loxicom before this seemed a high dose - I queried it three times and had to wait in the surgery for 3/4 hour whilst the head nurse and vet checked the dose. Having twice confirmed 1.75ml was correct, they finally agreed that it was too high and reduced it to 0.4ml once daily.
I have therefore lost faith in the advice I have been given and would appreciate some confirmation that this is the correct dose for a male pig, 2 years old 1.32 kg.
Many thanks and a lesson learned. I now need to find a specialist Guinea Pig vet in Worcestershire, England!
