Junior Guinea Pig
Hi
I've had my 2 boars, Louie and Elmo for 7 months now and they are fantastic animals. They used to live in a 120cm cage which was fine but I was having trouble getting them out for floor time and also not having enough time to do this. So I decided to build a large C&C cage. Having never built one before, I was a bit anxious as to how it would turn out. It took me 7 hours and over 100 cable ties, but here's the finished result:
It's 4 grids x 4 grids with a roof because I also own a cat. It measures almost 5ft x 5ft. There is a door on the side which gives them access to the rest of my bedroom for a couple of hours every other day or so. I was originally going to build a L-shaped cage but when I started building, i thought why not make it bigger, as the bigger the cage the better. To keep the roof from collapsing, i had to attach 3 grids inside the cage in the shape of a T to support it. The boys use these spaces for their beds and sleeping in. I also taped fleece to the edges of the correx to prevent them chewing the plastic as they are big chewers.
Louie was a little overweight before I built the cage, but in a few weeks of the installation of this new cage, he's now slimmer and much fitter. They popcorn around it regularly and during floor time. They love the extra space.
