Hello, I have lost my guinea pig named Chai earlier this morning (three-two hours ago). I have two (Chai and Mocha) both female. Chai is quick, shy, and not very social. I was walking home from the park and when I got close to a row of huge and thick bushes, she jumped into one very quickly. I have put some food and her favorite igloo near the bush, and I have tried searching in the bushes. Unfortunately, the row of bushes is very long, and about up to my waist. There are also some spiky branches. I have not heard nor seen any movement or sound, I have even tried using her sister, Mocha to help find her. I also tried calling her name. Any tips to find her?

Is the bush near your home or somewhere else? Put out a box or carrier that she may be familiar with, with some soiled bedding from her cage. Also have a search on here for threads of the same title, there are some tips in there. I hope your girl turns up.

I'm not really sure what you can do if it's not at home. Just set something up if possible and hang around to see if she will come out. What is the bush near? A park, road, residential area?

The bush is on the way out of a park that is part of my neighborhood

I don’t quite understand how you came to lose a guinea pig in this way. Perhaps you would care to elaborate on what you were doing with 2 guinea pigs somewhere away from your home.

Sounds like (s)he was holding them when one jumped from her arms. That’s the only thing that makes sense.

@Mochi206 is that the case? If so, why were they not in a carrier of some sort? Is this something you did regularly?

Any news?

I have not had any luck yet. I was holding her in my arms and then she suddenly jumped out. Sometimes I take them outside in my arms

I was going to take them to the park. the park in my neighborhood has a huge grass field and I had a small cage/barrier to pet her inside to play. I only took one outside, I left her sister inside with the rest of my family

I hope you do find her but I think you need to be realistic. It’s difficult because you can’t sit near the bush waiting. If it’s a large area she may have moved on. I think in future you’re better off going to cut some grass (if you’re allowed) and bringing it back to them.

Is the park used by dogs? If so, you shouldn’t feed them grass that has dog pee on it. I’ve got everything crossed for you.

In the park there are some people who walk their dogs

I would stop taking them there or feeding them that grass. It’s not a good idea at all.

Did you see if any of the stuff you left out had been used? It’s a tough one because any food will be eaten by dogs or other animals. I don’t know if you have rats, squirrels, foxes etc there.

Not that I know of. I have noticed some poop in the food bowl but I don't know if it is new or old

That may well be but if there are dogs and other animals about. It’s hard but you need to think about the reality of getting her back. Sorry.

I’m not convinced that you are not telling us a shaggy dog story here...
Hmm yes Mochi206 so overcome with grief they were last seen browsing the photos of my husband's lockdown haircut... I think I am calling fake news on this, although my husband's beard was indeed shaggy enough to conceal a fair few guinea pigs I doubt he is harbouring the one Mochi is searching for...?

Can we see pictures of your girl(s)?

And for anyone else who may be reading this thread please note that it is NEVER safe or appropriate to take your piggies outside into a public area or open space in your arms.
Any transfer from their main cage (no matter how short or 'safe') should only ever be done with your piggies in some form of secure carrier (a cardboard box will do if necessary).

Additionally it is not a good idea to take your piggies out to a public area to spend time on the grass. You have no idea if this has been peed on by dogs/foxes, etc or treated with chemicals.
If you don't have a garden you are much better off collecting grass for your piggies from a place you know is not used by dogs to toilet.
All grass not from your own garden should be throughly washed before being fed to your piggies.

Carrying your piggies around, and taking them to open public places is not cute or fun - it is dangerous and irresponsible.
