Hi everyone,

Today I’ve had to say goodbye to my beautiful boy Percy after 3 years 😢I’m absolutely devastated.

I’ve never owned piggies before my 2 boys and they’ve been together from birth. Can anyone offer any advice on how to support Gus (my other boy) and the best way to go about finding him a new friend.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I’m so sorry for your loss. Please ignore my first reaction to your post, that was an error and fat fingers!

For now, if Gus is okay, you have a few weeks to find him a friend. The best route would be boar dating although I’m not sure if rescues are doing that at the moment. I would contact rescues to register your interest and see what they say.

Hi and welcome

I am ever so sorry for your loss! You are welcome to post a tribute to Percy in our Rainbow Bridge section if you feel that it would help you.

It would help us greatly if you could add your country, state/province or UK county or major city to location in your account details (accessed via clicking on your username on the top bar) to make it appear with every post of yours and allow us to tailor any recommendations to what is relevant and available where you are straight away with just a quick glance to the left.

Your practical options with Gus very much depend on what is available in your area re. access to good welfare standard rescues for boar dating in order to allow Gus a say in who he wants to be with or vet access if you would like to consider neutering so Gus could live with a sow or two after a 6 weeks' post-op safety wait or if you have access to neither. We are dealing with enquiries from literally all over the world and from very different conditions, climates, background and access to facilities.

As long as Gus is still eating and drinking, he will keep for a few weeks for you to do your research. Most UK rescues have got waiting lists they will work through once adoption is possible again due to Lockdown restrictions.

So sorry you lost Percy, sending you hugs at this sad x
Sleep tight little man 🌈

I hope you can find a new companion for Gus, boar dating at a rescue would be the best option. Send an email to one’s near you Rescue Locator I’m not sure where you live but there’s a link to our Rescue locator if you say you have a bereaved boar they should be offer help. Single piggies are not usually displayed on their websites as they don’t like to re-home single piggies but they often have some in their care x
Good luck, tell us how you get along

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

Gus seems ok at the moment and is eating and drinking but will keep a very close eye on him. Glad to hear I have a few weeks to get things sorted. I’ll look in to rescues and see if I can find him the perfect pal x
