I fed my 2 guinea pigs hulk and thor yesterday and they seemed fine...gone to feed them tonight and they have both passed...they are fed daily and fresh water and hay...they are also outside but the hutch has got a cover on...I'm well gutted as I've had them from 8 week old since September...cn anyone shed a light on why...what shall I do with them now 😢

Oh no 😥 I am so sorry for your losses. I can't advise you on why they may have passed, but I am sending my love in this difficult time.
Sleep tight little ones 💕🌈

PS people either bury their passed piggies or take them to a vet to be cremated. Apparently a post mortem to find out about an unexpected death is very expensive and doesn't always give answers 😕

I cnt Bury them as my backyard is flagged...cnt leave them til they open Monday to cremate them so I'm lost at what to do xx

I've had a passed piggy at home for 24 hours, I know Monday is that bit longer but it's cool weather. I wrap them in towel or blanket, then when I'm done saying goodbye, I put them in a box or bag.

Thankyou I'll do tht...what did u do with them after
I haven't got a garden, so I take them to the vet to get cremated. I've wondered whether you can bury a pet in a local wood but I'm not sure if allowed, and think would have to be dug deep not to get disturbed by foxes etc.

Does tht cost for them to get cremated

Yes the vet cost here seems a lot for cremation, maybe £35 cheapest option. I would think where you are it'd be more sensible price maybe.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Such an awful shock for you. The only thing I can think of that would take them at the same time is gas, poison or temperature. But it’s not that cold yet really. Bless them. They are together over the bridge. Take care ❤️

They were always covered..fed..watered and fresh hay...still cnt accept the fact they av gone...they were found as if they were hugging xx

They also hide any illnesses so well. So sad. Yes it looks like they just snuggled up for a nap.

Aw how sad, I’m so sorry for your losses :( There could be a number of reasons why they have passed. Sadly, only a post mortem carried out by a vet will shed some light but these are both very expensive and upsetting.

I personally bury my passed piggies in large plant pots but you can also have them cremated at the vets. The cheapest option is to have a mass cremation where they are cremated with other animals but you don’t get the ashes back or you can have a private cremation where you get the ashes back. We did this when our cat died. We received his ashes back in a cardboard scatter tube and scattered his ashes in a plant pot or for a little more money, you can choose to have the ashes back in an urn, casket or pouch so you can keep them x

Hi

I am ever so sorry!

Guinea pigs can die from fright if there have been any fireworks close by (we often see a little spike in sudden outdoors deaths at this time of year) or a predator like a fox, cat etc. or a rodent like a rat or mouse has tried to get in or got in (especially as it hasn't been a particularly cold night were a single hutch cover may not have been enough or an icy draft may have got in). Mice can get throught anything you can stick a pencil through.
The other option is some sort of poisoning but you generally see symptoms first. Sudden inexplicable multiple deaths do happen more to outside piggies. :(

I would recommend that you get a plant pot and a small pack of peat-free ericaceous soil (for its acidity) to bury your piggies in; that is something that you can also always take with you. Cover the pot top with something heavy for the first week or two and then plant with heather for the winter and replant for summer bedding. Depending on the size of the pot you choose, you can also opt for a suitable evergreen shrub. ;)
If you prefer to have your little sweeties cremated, wrap them up in an old towel, put them in a plastic bag and take them to your vet tomorrow. I would however enquire first about what they charge. Some pet crematoriums will take private customers if you have one in reach, which is generally a lot cheaper.

So sorry for your loss.
What a shock for you to find them like that.
Be gentle with yourself as you grieve
