Hi everyone

It's been a while since I've been on here just looking for some advice if I may. One of my youngest piggies had an injury a few months back that the vet described as a sprained elbow. He was on painkillers for 5 days and recovered well. Now this evening we have noticed him limping again and on further looking he has a patch of sore skin with hairloss under his armpit. Picture attached. I've got the vets booked for tomorrow but just wondered if anyone had any ideas to put my mind at rest overnight. As advised by the vet last time we've separated him from his pal and put a few extra toys in the cage so he doesn't have as much room to run around and do more damage.

Thanks in advance
Faye

Hi! Please have that spot vet checked as to whether it is fungal (even ringworm) or mange mites; it could be either, but needs different treatment. You will have to treat both boys. With prompt correct treatment and good hygiene, you should be able to get on top of it pretty quickly.
Ringworm: Hygiene And Pictures

It is not uncommon that an active piggy can jar a sprained joint repeatedly, but it should hopefully not be quite as bad as the first time round and eventually it should be fine again.

I'm sure he'll be fine until tomorrow. Teddy had mange mites last year and I discovered the bald patch on a Friday or Saturday, don't remember exactly. Until monday he didn't see a vet (not because of me!) and he was completely fine (couldn't say the same about me though hahaha).

Please keep us updated with what the vet said!

Thank you. I'm 5 hours away from home at the moment with work and back this eve so I'll get him booked. My partner does a fantastic job looking after them them but I still feel bad not being there. We have a great vet near us known as the Guinea pig lady so hopefully she will help him, poor little thing

Today is perfectly fine; just don't leave it until next week if you can!
