For the past week Luna has lost a bit of her appetite. She is still eating and comes for her breakfast/dinner but doesn’t want cucumber, courgette, carrot or peppers. She’s happily eating coriander and lettuce.

I’m topping up with critical care and she will take up to 20mls per feed if she’s in the mood. I started this last week to make sure she was hydrated. she’s happily taking this via syringe in her cage. In my experience if they are feeling very unwell they won’t voluntarily have it so hoping there isnt too much wrong.

I think the heat last week (we’re in the uk) got to her, despite me doing everything possible to keep them cool, they are inside pigs. Saffie is fine.

she doesn’t like being handled and vet trips stress her out so not sure whether to take her yet or not. She’s still eating hay just not as much as normal. I know the critical care will fill her up but not keen on reducing it just yet.

Shes having metacam daily at the moment just incase.

Is it normal to just go off certain veggies?

She’s not showing any signs of stones (very experienced with them now as Saffie is a suffer) not showing signs of ovarian cysts. Not showing signs of dental issues - no drooling, eating pellets, hay block when she fancies it. Vet listened to her heart earlier this year and wasn’t concerned.

Yes they can go off veggies or get fed up with certain ones, but

What had been going on with her weight prior to starting critical care? Loss of appetite for certain types of veg is one thing but of course loss of appetite and weight drops due to reduced hay intake is the major concern.
Is her weight stable now you are offering top up feeds?

If she isn’t eating as much hay and there has been weight drops, then I would take her to the vet. She may appear to be ok, but there could be something going on which isn’t yet producing more obvious symptoms

Her weight is ok, she lost a few grams last week but it’s going back up.

Was it the vet who prescribed the painkiller? Weigh her once daily (mornings are best) and see how her weight is. I would get her booked in, though not as a matter of urgency.

Yes vet prescribed the metacam, so far I’ve dealt with bladder stones (Saffie), ovarian cysts (Lexie) and allergies (Luna). They are all from the same breeder and everything started to go wrong when they turned 3. So I’m trusted to use it as and when I need to, also because she gets so stressed being handled and going to the vets.

She’s bright enough and eating for herself so not an emergency but I was just wondering if it’s usual to suddenly go off veggies?
