I recently made a post about losing my 6yo piggie two days ago. I've been watching my piggie, and I noticed while holding him today that he is losing a ton of hair and has lots of dandruff. This is all new since cleaning their cage last week. The hair is coming out in clumps with skin attached to the end, he has no bald spots, and his coat is still thick enough I can't really see all the way down to the skin. He has no eye crusties, so bald spots, he's eating and drinking water. When I picked up my piggie that passed, he didn't lose any noticeable hair or have any noticeable flakes, his eyes were clear of crusties too. I'm hoping they weren't sick without my noticing. I'm taking my other guy to the vet tomorrow, just to clear him. Has anyone had this happen?

Really sorry to read about the loss of your other guinea pig 😔
Have you changed the way you clean the cage? Wondering if your current pig could have had a reaction to a cleaning product or something if it's happened since the last cage clean?
Hope you get answers at the vet.

I use fleece bedding and just use vinegar and water to clean the base so that they don't have a reaction to anything.

It could be a couple of things but most of them are treatable. I am not going to speculate as I am not a vet and you're doing the right thing taking him.
I am sorry for your loss and I hope you get the answers you need. Good luck with the vet.
