I’ve never seen this before, and am not sure if it’s just an old age thing! My guinea seemed to lose a little fur around the bottom of one eye a few weeks ago, it isn’t bad, doesn’t look sore, and it hasn’t got any worse. It doesn’t seem to be bothering her. I just wondered if anyone knows what it is please and whether I need to get any medication or visit the vets? She has been a little run down lately following gut stasis, but is back eating with stable weight now, not sure if it’s related to being run down.
Many thanks

Could be that the skin is irritated if the guinea pig has watery eyes due to old age, or maybe fungus. I would visit the vets just so they can check the eye out and give some advice.

I would have to agree that it is fungus.
My Bear came from the pet shop with hair missing around his neck. I just gave him a bum bath and his hair grew back. Bear did visit Dr. Jayne for other illness after coming to live with us from a pet shop, so he was seen by a vet.

It is common for fungal infections such as ringworm to start around the eyes. While hair loss is a sign, there are no crusts showing on the picture which is a tell tale sign.
There are several types of fungal infections but if it was ringworm and you say the loss started a few weeks ago then you would absolutely know by now if she had untreated ringworm - it would be all over her, her companion(s), and spreading to you/your family.
Do see a vet if you are concerned

Thank you very much. Yes no scabbing and still no worse. I do have some of the fungal shampoo for guineas, do you think it would do any harm to wash in that, avoiding the eyes?

I would not use anything on spec, not even shampoos, because doing so wipes the scene of evidence a vet needs
