Hi all,

We are looking to get our boar a friend. I have done lots of research into piggy rescues. We've contacted a fee but die to the current situation there are lots of waiting lists.

What's people's experience in bonding their guinea pigs?

I never knew about guinea pig dating before this site and I think that's going to be the best way- for anyone who has done guinea pig dating did it work out in the long term?

I would also like to buy a c x c cage when and if we can get the new piggy.

I would like to hear of people stories both successful and non successful.

Also does anyone go to a particular rescue and that you would personally recommend?

Thank you 😘

There is a list of recommended rescues here
I don’t have experience of doing the bonding at home as my boys were already paired up. Hopefully someone else will be along to answer your other questions.

Could you please add your county to location in your account details (accessed via clicking on your username on the top bar). this makes it appear with every post and allows us to tailor any advice to what is relevant or available where you are with just a quick glance to the left. We have members and enquiries from literally all around the world and from very different climates, backgrounds, vet and rescue access, not to mention brand names (including medical). It would help us enormously to be able to help you more quickly and more effectively than just giving you a general standard answer.

Because of lockdown, there are waiting lists in all rescues but if you consider going freelance and getting a baby or another boar on spec, you have to have a plan B in reserve in case the bonding won't be successful. Rescue dating has shown that it takes on average 1-3 candidates (and sometimes more) to find a new Mr Right.

With a single boar, have you considered neutering and bonding with a sow or two after the mandatory 6 weeks safety wait as an alternative? You will have to find a good vet of course. Neutering operations should start up again with lockdown conditions eased as they are classed as an elective and not an emergency procedure.
