I've gained a 3 year old longhaired girly. I haven't had a piggy with long hair for a long time and I'm wondering how is best for care for her hair? I have a small dog so have little slicker brushes, can I use that gently? Can I use any kind of detangling spray or is that not safe? Id like to avoid cutting her hair if I can because she's so pretty

Congratulations on your new piggy! ❤️ I used a small comb on Truffle's fur. I trim the long fur around his bum as it gets a bit sticky with wee here and there. In summer I trim his coat more when it gets hot, using hair dressers' scissors. If you use them, they are very sharp so always make sure they are not closing on anything but fur. Other piggy slaves may have more tips for you. Long fur is beautiful and lovely to stroke 🥰

Congrats on your new pig! Long-haired pigs are really beautiful!

The problem area tends to be the train at the back, as pigs will pee on it and it will develop matted areas, so that's the part you'll have to manage the most. I basically cut off anything that tends to get pee on it, basically keeping it high enough that it doesn't trail on the ground. I also usually trim the sides up a bit so they don't trail on the ground too much, but there's more leeway there, since they seem to stay a lot dryer and less tangled.

Here's a pic of Misa looking nicely brushed out... you can tell we cut the back more than the sides. Some pigs really like brushing and will sit calmly and have a snack while you brush and trim... not Misa, though, she is REALLY feisty and she does NOT like scissors or brushes! Hopefully yours will be more cooperative, clipping Misa is a 2-person job because she will either try to run or she will grind her teeth and spring around and try to fight the scissors! LOL!
