Hi! It's been a long time since I've been on the site! I have a question about teeth.... I have had 8 guinea pigs and none have had any issues with their teeth. Last week, my daughter noticed that one of Oscar's front teeth is a little longer than the other. He is still eating, drinking, doesn't seem in pain. My main issue is - there are very few vets here in Arizona, USA that take guinea pigs and know how to treat them, and all of the ones who DO aren't accepting new patients. Is this something that I need to take care of ASAP? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Oscar is about 6.5 years old and is otherwise super healthy.

Thank you!

If he is super healthy and eating loads of hay then leave well alone. He may have just chipped that tooth and it will grow back in 2-3 weeks. Weigh him weekly and keep a record of his weight, monitor him and his eating. An unexperienced vet doing well intentioned dental procedures may unbalance the teeth and can cause more harm than good from my experience

Thanks for your reply! It's not that he has a chipped tooth. One is definitely growing longer than the other. But like I said, he is eating and seems completely healthy so...? I have an appointment next week with a vet close to my home but I know from experience that she isn't very savvy as a piggie vet. :hmm:

Good luck, I hope you can find out what the problem is.
