So J and I were wondering, whilst we were watching the girlies having floor time yesterday - does long hair put the piggies at a disadvantage when it comes to socialising and body language?

We have noticed that when playing (or in Lettie's case when she is cross with how her cage is laid out!) their back legs are very expressive, kicking and bucking, then the way they hold their bodies either close to the ground or arched slightly up when running etc.
But obviously Bluey and Piper have their long skirts on, so their legs and body carriage can't be seen....

Does this affect them at all?

Just a monday morning musing really! x

I wouldn't think so. But it is an interesting point raised.

I don't really know enough to comment with any authority.

Our long haired piggy certainly communicates her wishes fine :)) especially at season time with her mounting! She is the soze of a small cat too - poor piggies

I have both long-haired and short-haired pigs and have never noticed that it hinders their communication or expressiveness. Actually, both of my long-haired pigs spent quite a bit of time with their legs kicked out the back and had no problem expressing themselves the other pigs (Linney in particular- never any doubt what she was thinking! She had quite the forceful personality!)
