How often do you groom your long haired pigs and whats the best way to do it, I tend to lift up the fur an do it in layers ending up at the top

I tend to groom my long haired piggy once a week or so, whenever her hair starts to become slightly matted or too long. I try to keep it trimmed medium length to prevent matting and keep it off the cage floor. I can't really recommend the best way to do it, however by distracting the piggy with one of their favourite fruits/veggies, you can work by brushing one layer at a time as you said, and trimming if needs be. I find that to keep their hair more manageable it's useful to keep the ends just above the cage floor level (or higher if you so wish), which helps prevent matts and keeps the fur out of the piggy's feet and bedding.

It sounds like you have an effective way in which to groom your long haired piggy/piggies and so really I would just suggest to do what works for you and your pig(s). Hope this helped.
