Lonely Pig!

Hi, I had two guinea pigs until about October last year and although they weren't in together because they didn't get on, (two unneutered males of about the same age, both rescues), they were near each other at night indoors and could talk to each other through the bars of the outdoor hutch/run during the day. Since Cinnamon died, Nutmeg seems to be lonely and has stopped wheeking and chuntering completely. I've given him a stuffed toy, which he sleeps against, but he still seems depressed & lonely. He can't go out at the moment either as it's too cold and damp.
I just don't know what to do for the best. Could I introduce him to another older rescue pig? Should I get a neutered one, if it's possible? He's about 4 years old at the moment, so he's not even a really old pig and I don't want him to be lonely for the rest of his life! It even crossed my mind as to whether I could introduce him to the gerbils! If I got a girl pig, I'd probably end up with babies and I don't want that either!
I don't know what to do for the best! Can anyone help? :-\

you could take along to a rescue and see if he gets on with any other boars :) the boar doesnt need to be castrated though as it wont make a difference to behaviour :)

well you are right about the girl piggy ;D
Another male would be great for him and he may accept a baby male O0 If you get him neutered then he could have a girlfriend ^-^
But i would never put any animal in with another species O0

Some rescues do allow you to take your piggy in, and let him have a sniff of possible friends, and see which he likes :smitten:

I think you should def get him a friend, either older, younger, or maybe consider neutering and a gf (depending on how confident you are in your vet, and if at his age its a risk you want to take)

As has already been said, neutering guineas doesnt change their behaviour...

If worse comes to worse, and they wont get on, he could always have a neighbour again :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Lol @ the gerbils - pig/pig only definately ;D O0

:) Thanks for your swift replies, I've just had him out for a run and he seems quite happy when he's in company, but still no noises :(
I'd let him run on the floor more often, but we have two cocker spaniels, one of which thinks he's just-another-puppy-and-not-hers-thank-you-very-much, (she's a rescue puppy farm breeder), and the other one thinks pigs-are-for-eating-thank-you-very-much! (he's a rescue failed drugs dog).
I'll try and get to a rescue and get him a friend, I think, after reading your replies. Like you say, even if they don't get on, they could be close neighbours!
Thanks again,
Charlie
