Hello everyone I have a 2 year old female piggy who unfortunately due to the resent loss of her two sister is now living on her own. One younger one has passed away after difficult surgery and month later our oldest girl has passed away at the age of 6 years. She seems to be getting on great and shows no signs of unhappiness but I know she feels lonely and missing her sisters she has never been alone 😞I do feel heartbroken after losing them and I’m not able to think about adopting a new piggy but I want my little girl to be happy so
I am thinking of fostering a female to keep her company.
What is your opinion please? Do anybody have any similar experience?

P.S.
I’m based in London does anybody know any rescues that offer long term fostering ?
Thank you
Sylwia 💛

I live in north wales and I have read about BARC in Barnsley who’s is around 1hour

Hi!

it is great that you want to find your girl new company. Here is our recommended rescues locator for the rescues we can vouch for that you and your girl are in safe and experienced hands. Recommended Guinea Pig Rescues

Do you mean ARC (Animal Rescue and Care) in Twickenham or BARC (Barnsley Animal Rescue Charity in Yorkshire)? The latter does no longer have a guinea pig fosterer. Most rescues (but not the RSPCA) may be amenable to discuss with you arrangements re. not continuing with guinea pigs after the death of your last girl. You can consider both a sow or a neutered boar.

You could try to also contact East Peckham Guinea Pig Rescue, who offer a residential bonding service where the whole bonding process happens at the rescue.

Anway, the average healthy life span is 5-7 years. ;)

Aw I'm so sorry for your losses :( It's always such a heartbreaking time! I'm glad you are considering a friend for your remaining piggy :) Unfortunately London is a little too far for us but check out Wiebke's link to the forum's recommended rescues - I hope there is one nearby! I think most rescues would be open to considering a Foster arrangement xx

Thank You very much for your advice. I did contact the “ The Little Piggy” rescue Center in Twickenham yesterday still waiting for response, tomorrow I will get in touch with East Peckham Guinea Pig Rescue. I’m hoping to get some positive response soon. I don’t mind a sow or a neutered boar.
❤️

Hello I have been trying to contact different rescue places but with no luck 😞 some don’t reply and don’t pick their phone or I’m too far
I’m slowly loosing hope for the fostering... didn’t expect that trying to find the optimal option would be so challenging my little girl is still alone and I can’t adopt a new piggy at the moment ...feeling hopeless 😞💔

I hope you get sorted soon... Please bear in mind that rescues are usually run by volunteers and can't always respond as soon as you would like them too... I am sure they will be in touch soon..

I sometimes find these website contact emails can be a big slow and have often had no replies (not rescue related) don’t give up hope x

I agree. I'm. A volunteer at a rescue in Scotland and most of the time there's only the lady that runs it in working there caring for them all. She's got 60 or so piggies in at the moment and more waiting to come in. Most volunteers (myself included) can only usually manage in one day a week to help as I've got a full time job too. Also the people running rescues have family and other commitments outside the rescues operating hours. So please don't give up hope. They're maybe just a bit overworked and understaffed.

Thank you I’m still trying. My local Pets at home has a piggy for adoption but I really can’t afford to go for adoption 😞 mentality and financially... the last surgery cost me £1200 not to mention additional scans and post surgery check ups and tests 😞

Sadly any piggie can fall ill at any time.

Hello I just got reply from one of the rescue teams and they told me that fostering in my case it would be unfair as my girl would get attached to the foster piggy and if she find her “forever home” she will be again left alone. They told me maybe I should consider giving my baby to rescue... I don’t want to do that! 💔💔💔💔💔🙈 she is my happiness
I don’t know what should I do...

I’ve just seen your post and I’m going to give you my view which may not be popular, but I will be honest.

At 2 your girl has potentially many good years ahead of her. She is not elderly or ill and in her best interests should not be kept alone for the rest of her life.

Are you looking to break the cycle of piggies? If so I don’t think a long term foster is the solution. We have been known to “loan” a foster piggy as a companion to a solo elderly piggy. But not to a 2 year old. The rescue couldn’t really be expected to “loan” a piggy long term as a companion and still be responsible for checking its health and well-being and responsible for its vets bills in the long term. It would be different if your girl was 4 or 5.

You would really need either to formally date and adopt a companion for her or find her a baby sow as a companion or otherwise, hard as it sounds, if you don’t want to continue the cycle then you need to surrender her to a rescue so she can be paired with a permanent companion and rehomed.

I’m sorry if that sounds harsh, it dealing as I do with rescue situations on a regular basis and it is the issue of breaking the cycle that often brings piggies into the rescue.

Thank you for your kind advice I do perfectly understand ,her happiness is my priority.
I’m taking her for a play date on Sunday and let’s see what it would bring 💛🐽
