Hello
I recently got 1 male guinea pig (10 weeks old) and I want to get him a friend. He was with another male but was really badly bullied. I have just got him back to full health after 2 weeks living on his own with antibiotics and plenty of food. I really cant face him fighting with another boar so would the best option be to get him neutered and get him a girl? If so how common is it for a male and female to fight? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

J

The best thing to do is to take him boar dating. This is when you take him to a rescue and they let him choose his own friend. I have heard so many wonderful stories of guinea pigs finding their perfect match that way. I really believe there is a friend out there for all piggies. I would try finding him a boar before getting him neutered. It is a big operation.

Thanks for the advice, does anyone know of any rescue centres in south east london, near Dulwich?

There is a rescue list on this forum in the rescue and rehoming section, or you could google search guinea pig rehome (there is a site with that name that lists most rescues in the uk by area. :) )

I had my boar on his own for a year, and although generally not condoned on this forum, it helped us bond brilliantly as he was my little sunshine, so just incase you cant get him to bond right away if you do decide to get him neutered or go to a rescue and hunt for a boar-friend (see what i did there ;D ) as long as he has lots of things to cuddle/hump/chew and munch, in a nice huge cage, he'll be grand.
Its not the end of the world if he's alone, its a gradual, thing getting him a cage mate anyway =).
Good luck!
