Not even if it were a big cage? would the boars get to dominant? I dont understand as 2 boars can live togteher and they can also live with a sow

They fight over females. Sometimes inflicting nasty woulds. My boars all live with girls and if another boar runs past there cage they go crazy! It's there woman.

two boars living together generally speaking have to be kept away from sows, as it can cause fallouts.

Guinea Pigs live in herds of one male and females in the wild it's nature, too put 2 males with females is against nature so success rates are extremely low or non existant as I personally do not know of any groups like this.

All that neutering does is stop the ability to make babies - they will still act the same as entire males. This means they will fight if there are females present in order to be the one that mates with them, the girls could get hurt in the process too. The chances of a foursome working is so remote that I think it would be a mistake to even try.

Probably best to keep your two boars together and your two sows together.

Thanks for the advice guys -c hope i didnt sound like an idiot! I only have 2 boars, but they just dont act like everyones on here, theres no cuddling between them or anything, no bonding. so i thought females might of helped.

It wouldn't, Some pigs just don't cuddle doesn't mean there is anything wrong!

That's what the forum is for - benefitting from others experience and knowledge, I'm just so pleased you asked before you went ahead and had a disaster on your hands!

Are you having problems with your boys? If you give their ages, behaviour, cage size etc there may be something that can be done to help. Not all boys will get on, they have to like each other, though some behaviour can be seen as nasty when it's just them sorting out their relationship.

Hiya, they are 3-4 months old. Found out they were abused by the previous owner who like to spray them with mens deorderant to calm them down. they wont sleep near each other, General Shang sleeps in the hidey place, which is big ebough for 4 piggies! Kenai isnt aloud in there most of the time, theres alot of head butting and what appears to be nipping. And lots of squeaking!

Excellent point here it's true :). Boys can be very troublesome. :x

Well as you probably already know - they are just about to hit the teenage strop months. I find that having a bedroom that they can't get pinned in a corner helps - I always make the doors extra wide so no-one can control it and have two exits if poss.

There are lots of threads and stickies on male behaviour - I think learning as much as you can now will help as you'll be able to see the different behaviour as they're growing up continues and know what it means - and whether it's serious or quite normal.

The odd nip at this age is fairly normal - given their background you can understand that they are nervous, poor boys.

I have 3 girls and they don't snuggle either although they seem perfectly happy in each others company. They always sleep in separate hideys and have their moody moments. Some pigs are just not touchy feely with each other. So it's not just boys. :(|)

I have piggies in my tribe who like to sleep alone - it doesn't say anything about their relationship.

You can think about having both boys neutered and living with one sow each in case they have a bad fall out with bloody fights and bites over the stroppy months. It is one option. Thankfully, the majority of boar pairs make it though the big hormones together and live happily ever after.

Susy's tips are very good - often fights break out through lack of space or because one boar feels cornered. If you can take away as many potential causes for conflict you can certainly increase the chances that they will stay together.

Give your boys time - neglect and abuse take time to overcome; and the previous owner has really messed them up.

Thanks, ive found out that the person i got them from is now selling all her guinea pigs asap, its taking alot of strength not to buy them all. Cant believe the way some people treat their animals, i love my piggies, and although they may hate me I'm not giving up, Kenai lets me stroke him but he tries to bite me when i go to pick him up, and general shang wont let me touch him, i hardly even get to see him:(

It will take time and a lot of patience for them to learn to trust again, possibly even as long as a year but they have a good home with you now.

I agree that if they are neutured you could get them a lady friend each?

(love the names :)))

My girls dont sleep together either.

Yes i am seriously considering it now! Going to ask me vets the billing ect xx>>>

I have four piggies and it is very rare for any of my girls to share a hidey place. As I type, Pixel and Boris are lay near each other (but not touching) and both of my other girls are in seperate boxes.

I have never seen any of my pigs groom another either

I think some piggies just like their own space :)

Some places like zoos might have huge huge enclosures with both males and females and they can live together like in the wild, but I'm sure there is still the odd fight. When my dad was young, they had up to 30 guinea pigs, some males and some females, living in their garden free range and no fights.

But in a normal sized cage, I think the males would fight a lot.
