Hey guys, so I'm having some stuff going on with my Dolores (sow). Both of my girls are spayed and Senior piggies (they have 7 years). She’s with liver cancer they say. We did an ultra scan and saw that there is a small nodule inside her livre, that had aprox. 0.2 cm and in a couple months till this date, has 0.3 cm. My worries are arround the Fact that I didnt find any information about this pro edite in guinea pigs. The vet says that she can try to remove the stuff in a surgery and she could live better and more but there is a risk cause she never done that in piggies. Only in cats and dogs (she is the one who spayed both of my females. She is called Cristina and she is very famous in my region with all kind of surgeries.
The procedure is called hepatectomy (livre ressection).

What You guys think about this? I must say that I'm really scared. But if its better for her, would surely do this.

Does anyone here already done this or had this with they’re piggies?

I had attached the exams in this post.

Sorry if my english is not só good, trying my Best here!

Hope god can let me keep my little dolores more time cause it will be very hard withouth her arround.

Hi and welcome

I am so very sorry about your choices. Unfortunately, this is right at the very edge or still just beyond veterinary reach when it comes to guinea pigs as far as I can see so we cannot provide you with any feedback.

Thanks. I hope that she can become the first one to make it and live. I need to believe in that

I am going to keep my fingers very firmly crossed for your beloved girl and you! It needs the pioneers... but it takes courage.

My thoughts are going to be with you.

I'm sorry Carlos that your little Dolores got this diagnosis.

I've had a lot of senior guineas in my time. I would generally not allow any major surgery on a 7 year old guinea of mine and certainly not an experimental operation. Some guineas do live 8 or 9 years, but 7 is a good age too. I always find it hard to let my guineas go when it's their time so I don't mean to be hard-hearted.

How is Dolores day-to-day? Is she in pain? Or could she have a little bit of quality of life still? Without the operation I mean.

Sending care and support to you and your beloved guinea.

Well, she is doing fine. She Doesnt feel Pain but the nodule is growing faster. They say that she might not have much time without trying it. I dont know. Feel like I'm lost. Cause I know its very risky but I too know if she Doesnt do this and die in a couple months I think I would be more devasted and destroied. She’s my everyday girl. I mean, i love Cleide (my other piggy) but she had a lot of stuff going on in last years and her name means that she is fighting with pain every time. I gotta believe in this cause my life will never be the same without her. I will not have ligues anymore after them cause its not going to be Cleide and Dolores. There my sweetest part. They are trully the last part of my life that I feel vulnerability. Dolores is the white one and Cleide the black one. Last year she was not walking so well cause of a tooth surgery that she had a maloclusion i just dont know why cause it didnt happen again. She was the first arround here doing fisiotherapy and she cama to walk again in 5 sessions. I gotta believe that she will be pioneering and winnin this one too.

I'm sorry you're in this position, I've never been in the same situation but I have done smaller surgeries with older piggies. Were she one of mine, I would very likely go ahead with the surgery. I did have one with an abdominal mass and I did send her in for removal but during surgery it was clear it couldn't be safely removed as it had grown too close to arteries.

The liver is pretty resilient, with a good surgeon it would be a risk I'd take. If she is still good and healthy she could well have upwards of 2 years of natural life left!

Carlos, you know your own guinea and the vet, so it sounds as if going through with the suggested operation is the best thing for you and Dolores. I wish you and her all the best!

Very sweet pictures of your two piggies
