My guinea pig Gingee has recently started to chew the wooden door frames in our rented flat. I've tried dabbing a tiny bit of vinegar on there to deter him but he still does it. I've also popped cushions there to hide them but he gets underneath. I also tell him 'NO' and try to usher him away but he always goes back! It's getting really annoying now and I'm worried we won't get our deposit back. He chews a lot of things esp paper but anything he can get his paws on. I made him a wooden chew toy made out of wood chews on some string. He does chew this but not much really. He also has a fruit chew stick in his cage and he chews this too. He also bites the bars of his cage which is quite annoying too. He does this when we let him back in the cage and he wants to come out.

I researched the problem and found you can buy bitter apply spray to deter pets from doing this but it seemed this product was aimed at dogs and cats. I wasn't sure if it was safe to use for a guinea pig. Are there any natural remedies for this?

Thank you

I have heard both opinions on bitter apple spray - some poeple have been warning that it is not good with piggies as it contains toxic chemicals.

I found that protecting vulnerable bits with physical obstacles of my home worked better - try cardboard buffers which you secure to the wall with something that is too heavy to push. Or try to get some of these log things which you can bend, so they can't get at the door frames.
