Hello! New Guinea pig owner ✋ I adopted them from another family who was using a litter box. They were using the white "potty litter" Kaytee brand I believe. Is that the only option for litter?

I don't use that, not sure what it is. Is it a cat litter? I personally use a pine based litter, it's safe for piggies and occasionally Cissy eats some. I wish she wouldn't but it's a really good, natural litter :D

Ok thank you! It's a small animal litter but I can't find it anywhere locally.

you could also switch to the more practical (and cheap) fleece... Under the fleece there are different options; I put newspapers and flyers from supermarket. No dust, no smell, no danger for delicate feet and... no cost :D

Oh it's horrible when that happens! You can also get recycled paper litter but I've never tried that. I was worried that it might become smelly like newspaper does.

In my piggy litter trays I have a layer of newspaper, then the pine litter (the urine goes into the pine litter and it doesn't reach the newspaper) and then a whole heap of meadow on top of it! The pine litter would be very uncomfortable otherwise I'm sure!

Hope that helps :)

Thank you everyone! We use fleece for their bedding with waterproof liners underneath. I bought some traditional cage bedding (not pine, can't remember what it's made of?!) for the litter box. Wish us luck! :)
