has anyone had any success with getting their pigs to use one?
i've started using towels in my hutch, and while it's better for their feet and they seem much comfier (they sleep anywhere haha) it's kinda gross picking poo pellets off the towels when i go to wash them!
are there any products on the market which encourage them to poop in litter trays rather than...everywhere? haha =]

I'd love to know the answer to this....mine will both quite happily use one OUTSIDE of their cage but not IN it! x

what do you use to encourage them to use it outside their cage?
once i've moved house in about a month i plan on fixing a permanent run to the front of their hutch so would it be worth buying a litter tray for that?

If you have a friend who has guinea pigs get some of their 'wet' shavings and put it in whatever you use for a litter tray, works a treat here but not all piggies have sufficient brains to realise its better for them to pee and poo in one place rather than all over the place...after a few times of using foreign smelling wee they usually get the idea though.

Mine have a litter tray in the corner of their cage which has woodshavings in and they use this but also tend to poo around their food bowl too but at least it isnt all over the cage ;)

no one i know owns guinea pigs! =[

would just normal shavings be a good idea? or if i put some of their poo pellets in the tray, would that make them think they should go there? :))

I got some litter tray stuff specially for small animals then put some of their own droppings etc in and that seemed to work fine. A lot of piggies naturally prefer one corner too- you could try putting a tray there.

i'll get a litter tray asap and try it, if i can decide which one is actually their preferred corner!
thank you =]

It's funny I thought george was litter trained he always used to use it when in his play pen and I was so proud, but now i have given up. :)) He now likes to wee in his veg and dry food dishes and also in his little dish I use for giving him dried dandelion etc..

i have a pink triangle one in one corner of my cage and then i also have a kitten rectangular one which is beneath the hay rack so they get in it to eat hay and i find this really successful as they wee loads when they are eating hay! they wee in one or the other the majority of the time and i line the square one with puppy pads!
