Does anyone have experience of trying to train their piggies to use a litter tray? Our two girls are now 10 weeks old and have always favoured definitive places in their cage to toilet, so I bought a corner litter tray. Several times a day I shift their magic beans and urine stained woodchip into the litter tray to move the smell. I've been doing this just over a week. They haven't started deliberately using it yet; it is very early days. Does anyone have any experience of this/advice? Am I doing it right? Are piggies difficult to litter train so should I give up? Thank you in advance

I have fleece then only the litter trays have bedding and hay in.I also have a roof over the litter trays. They use them most of the time but still have lots of poo to pick up

Thank you. I have noticed that one of them in particular will spend a lot more time in there if she has something to hide under. I may make some sort cover.

My girls pee mainly in there litter tray. Their hayrack is there too so they spend a lot of time in that area. Now I do see them go over to the tray for a pee. They are quite good actually. Still magic beans to pick up but mainly in their bed . They live on fleece and I use carefresh in the litter tray ☺️

That's great. Hope for mine yet. We had a bit of a setback as we had to go away for a week. I didn't think it was appropriate to ask our guinea pig sitters to what my son calls 'shifting poo'! We got back today so will resume training tomorrow. They love sitting in their litter tray when it's covered over

My older girls 5-8 months use the litter trays to do all pees and most poops although there is still some on the fleece I have to sweep up, The babies 6 weeks use them sometimes but go in other spots as well.

I have 2 girls 7 weeks old. Got them at 5 weeks old. I use fleece bedding. There is only hay in the hay box. They were bedded on straw before I got them. They've always used the litter box for 90% of all toilet duties.

I have just got two boys (2 and 3 years old) is it too late to try and litter train them ? I haven't noticed any patterns of poop being in certain places so I'm guess the previous owners never tried. If anyone has any advise that would be great! (Sorry if this post is in the wrong place, not too sure how to work this website atm )

I'm afraid it's not possible to litter train Guinea pigs. A lot of forum members find having hay trays helps as they tend to peee and poos where they eat - so do so while sittin ginn the hay tray .

I have to confess that I am leaning towards the fact that our two little girls won't litter train. They do indeed like to toilet where they eat. With the exception of one week's holiday, for several weeks we have religiously moved soiled bedding into their litter tray (moving the smell) several times a day but to no avail. I have heard of some that have but I am guessing it is uncommon
