Is it possible to litter train pigs?

The reason I ask is because for the past few days the pigs have only used their tray.

I'm not complaining as its easier to clean but I always thought it was almost impossible to train them.

I will add I am loving learning new things about these little creatures and cannot believe how fascinating they are to watch.

there not really litter trainable... but for some reason they like to pee and poop where they eat... god knows why...!
so thats more than likely why they are going there...
how are the girls getting on...?
Gems herd looks so wrong with out them... :)
and have you got any new photos of them...?... love to see how big they are getting...!

Hi Clare,

They're getting on really well. They've gotten a lot bigger since we've had them, but jess doesn't think so, so I'm not sure :)

I will get some photos done soon hopefully, they seem very interested in checking out everything else than having cuddles lol.

Gems the cute one on your website isn't she? Jess liked her, i thought she was pending a home check?

Yes there tray is by there food so that does make sence. I thought I'd cracked guinea pig whispering for a second lol

awww... cant wait to see how big they've got...!

that will just be becuase they are still very young and dont want cuddles of their slaves...!... they want to explore...!...:))

yes she was, It was decided between me and the lady who wanted her to go for a different pig... as Gem is extremly dominant... and the Lady had a herd of sows and some of them elderly... it had a 50/50 chance of working as her herd is quite laid back it could have been that Gem bonded to her herd and was top pig pretty much straight away or it could have ended up with some pigs being bullied... so to save stress on her piggies especially the oldies it was decided she would have a look round my other sows for a more placid one... :)
so she's back up for re-homing...

lol... if you'd cracked guinea pig whispering i'd be having you come down here and have words with gem... :))

I have a litter tray with megazorb underneath their hayrack and water bottle and its big enough to put their food bowl in too.

They do poop pretty much everywhere, however they do seem to wee mostly in the tray - hurrah!

It gets fully cleaned out every day and the very bottom layer of megazorb is always soaked. I have two boys who have rather potent wee so using the tray has really helped.
