I think its a little up and down whether this can actually be done, especially with my piggies as they just seem to poop without noticing
You could probably try to encourage it by getting one of those "corner" litter trays with care fresh or similar in, then when they poop, put their poops in there.. they may get the idea!
I tried a litter tray with my older 2 boys. I read somewhere that guinea pigs always pee in the same place so when i cleaned them out i kept some of their soiled bedding and put it in the litter tray along with a bit of clean woodshavings. Roy seemed to get the hang of it and would always pee in it but Snoop didnt get it at all so i don't use one anymore. Maybe if your piggies are all clever like Roy then it'll work!
i would love mine to do that, god knows there would be soooo much less to clean up haha, but i tried with a litter thing, but my piggies don't want a bar of it, they want to go alll over the place lol
good luck trying it with yours!
I think it is hit and miss. My boys have been getting good and normally when in their play pen they use the litter tray. However in their cage they prefer the vet bed, however tonight george sat in his play pen and looked at me in the way that said "I am being naughty".
I could tell he was weeing on the floor from the position of his body so I said in a silly voice "george are you doing a wee?" he looked at me then started popcorning with glee and sure enough there was a wet patch. It made me laugh as he was very cute and cheeky but swear he did it on purpose just for fun!
Mine just wee and poo anywhere they decide, they really are a nightmare when it comes to play pen time - i have a mass cleaning job to do when they go back into their cages lol
whenever my pigs are out and want to be naughty they will face me and i can just tell by their faces they are weeing!lol and they try to do it discretly!
about the litter tray i have a corner pink one wich they use (they dont like weeing in their beds so will come down the ramp and use it before going back to bed) but i also have a square one which fits both my pigs in it and its below the hay rack and so they wee in there mostly as they are eating (i line it with puppypads) and its fab it means i only need to wash my vet bed once every two weeks as they only wee on that if they are desperate and cant reach the litter trays lol
I dont bother in Lu's cage as she pees where she likes and there is nothing you can do about it.
but in her run she is very good, i brought a kitten litter tra and lined it with woodshavings and she soon understood that thats where to do 'business' i make sure any escapees are scooped back into it and so far we have had only one or two wee accidents.
as for a cage i have no idea i think it also depends on the type of bedding you have...
