The first vets office I went to wouldn't see Linus, the vet on shift was allergic to piggies After being referred on the phone from one vet to another I finally found one that will see Linus, my boar likely to have mites. They told me that the appointment is $55 and if he does have mites he'll need to be treated topically for two months ($15 per month). What I'm wondering is has anyone had a piggie with mites before? Do they give you the meds to administer to your piggie yourself? When I switched them from the old store bought cage to the new home-made cage they were seperated but Linus climbed over the border in the night so they were on the same side ..I noticed that they weren't fighting anymore, Charlie would chase Linus and stick his nose in his butt :-\ I have Linus seperated from Charlie at the moment, built a higher border, but if it is indeed mites will they need to remain seperated until Linus is free of mites even with medication? I examined Charlie and he's not itching or sneezing,no hair loss, and doesn't have dry skin or dandruff like Linus has and I thoroughly cleaned out his side of the cage to prevent the spread of mites if Linus does have them. Also should he have any special treatment until he sees the vet? He spends most of the day snuggling on the blanket in his pigloo , the poor guy He is eating and drinking regularly but not active and running around and talking all the time like Charlie. All in all I'm pretty nervous and just wondering if anyone can share their experience with mites.
