My rabbits and guinea-pigs currently have woodshavings as bedding, and the guinea-pigs have lots of hay on top and the rabbits have lots of straw on top. I posted on the rabbit forum about changing to those stick-on tiles to help protect the wood and to make it easier to clean and someone suggested lino so I'm planning on using that in the rabbit hutch, would it be ok to use in the guinea-pig hutch as well? Or would I have to put something on top of it? I was thinking of putting a few cat litter trays filled with hay in the hutch, which would be big enough for them to sit in if they wanted to get off the lino and I have some soft beds for them too. Would it be alright for them or would they need more bedding? I thought it would be much easier to keep clean because I could sweep it off and wipe it daily.

In our indoor C & C cage we have a wooden base, on top of it we use the stick-on vinyl tiles, we then have a layer of wood shavings, topped with hay. This arrangement makes it so easy to clean the cage as everything wet sticks to the tiles. You can then just scrape anything off. and refill the cage. :)

i think lining wooden hutch floors with lino is a good idea for both bunnies and pigs but would still put shavings and hay on top. it makes cleaning easier and stops the wood getting damp.
several coatings of yacht varnish is also a really good way to protect the wood but obviously your piggies would have to live somewhere else for a few days :)

My girls live free range in a shed. We covered the shed floor with lino and then on top of this, I cover it with newspaper, woodshavings and hay. It works a treat and the lino floor can just be mopped so it can just be wiped down with a damp cloth in a hutch. It also provides a layer of insulation :)
