We are due to get our new guinea pigs tomorrow, I have read all sorts on what bedding but I'm just wanting to double check - we've lined our outdoor hutch with lino and sealed it around the edges, then I was going to use dust free woodshavings/sawdust (not sure it's specific name off the top of my head) and then hay. I have seen a few people say they don't use newspaper and thought we'd just leave that out too. Is that ok? Do I need an absorbing layer under the sawdust stuff?

Thanks in advance!

We use dust extracted wood shavings. The c&c is lined with A plastic picnic sheet first of all to protect the corplast, then on top Newspaper this is vital to be honest as it wicks the urine around 4 layers of it, then on top the shavings. Helms shavings are really good

I also used to use newspaper under our shavings.
As much as anything it made it easier to scoop the whole lot out when we had to clean the cage.
I also agree with @sport_billy that it also helps wick away the moisture and keeps the top layer dryer for longer, and prevents puddles forming on the lino floor.
My lot were devils for bulldozing all of the shavings into a pile and without the newspaper to absorb pee their hutch could have easily become a bit of a puddle in places!
