I've heard OF guinea pigs singing/chirping like a bird, but have never actually heard one do it before. Then today I heard the weirdest sound from the cage- just rhythmic chirping, like a bird song. I was worried something was wrong, so I went running over and Linney was just sitting there with her head raised, singing away! So weird... she is three and a half and I have NEVER heard this noise from her before. What is it supposed to mean?

Just to add, there was nothing out of the ordinary going on... we had people over to the house, but they were my nephews and they are here pretty frequently, and the 'singing' started when they had all gone home and my kids had gone to bed. Maybe it was too quiet for her all of a sudden! LOL!

Had a couple chirp before. The first time we recognised it as chirping it came from a piggie who was 4 months old and was not being harrassed by any others or popcorning. She just started doing it for 20mins or so.

The second was last thrusday and it was our top sow who just started doing it in one of the hay kitchens. She had just humped at least 3 others before hand so may of been a chirp of dominance?!?!?
Honestly dont know what it's about. None of the other pigs were scared or concerned at either time, they just carried on like nothing was happening at all.

It is a beautiful noise though

Wow that is so rare and amazing. It is a total mystery as nobody can be so sure what it really means.

My toffee does this regularly, around dusk, never during the day and as soon as she hears movement it stops. It is amazing, i'm taking it as a happy sound as its usually when she is sitting with her two front feet on the food dish.
