I love my skyline maxi cage but as I originally bought it as a temporary cage as the boys were living in the shed, and now my OH says they can stay in (this was after just a few days of the boys being house inside that cage - but that's what convinced him  )

I am looking to provide a much larger floor area for them from breakfast till after tea, so that they can run about and have lots of space - and then in the evening the cage can go back on a wheeled stand and be rolled to the side.

When in just the cage itself they are a bit lazy but once its opened out like this they love it and there is a real difference in their activity levels. The new layout would be 120cm x 120cm ish so nice and big.

So seeing as I am now looking to give them double the room I thought about linking a ferplast 120 next to the skyline and using their flip up long sides to allow the boys to travel from one cage to the next. Also the added bonus is that by getting the ferplast cage my stand problem for finding a compatible cage will be solved too - if you have seen that thread you will feel my pain :)). I have included some pics of roughly how I'd like the cage to sit side by side, forming a big square and wondered if anyone else does this and how they bridge the two.

If I get the ferplast cage I would like to put a mezzanine level in across from the ferplast one so the boys can either travel to the next cage that way or dare to use the bendy sticks as shown in the pic.

Any pros or cons about doing this would be great!

We had this kind of set up for a few months :) 2 bog standard ferplast cages and a 2 tier cage. So we had one cage at bottom, another on top of that, one side taken off each - and the two tier pushed against it with the sides off that so they could go from cage to cage. Like the picture provided, but the pink was on top of the red, and the blue alongside them. My piggies LOVED exploring each different cage as they found a new hidey hole or bundle of food in each one. They also loved going up the ladder and jumping across to the other level. I felt it gave them far more room but didn't take up much more space in our house.

Wow! That looks brilliant! That type of set up would suit my boys are the prefer to tunnel and explore rather than zoom around - means they will have a mansion to explore during the day - just got to teach spud how to climb over the bridge, he never made it that far today - freckles found it no problem as usual! Lol!

Put some parsley like a breadcrumb trail :D or their favourite veg and they'll soon go over!

I put corriander over it but he wouldn't do it, in the end I felt sorry for him - going to get him into a piggy boot camp to man him up a bit for the ramps lol!

Pick him up and put him on the top of the ramp :) I found the easiest way for my lot to master the ladder for their two tier was to place them at a halfway point and they had to either go up or down... they soon realised that they could do it :)

I used to have two Ferplasts linked together when i had my trio and just put a fiddlessticks bridge over the gap, the boys soon learned to jump the bridge and loved it!

they do seem to enjoy having a bit of an obstacle course thing going on - more fun for them and us watching them working it all out too - going to set up their cage like something out of the crystal maze - aztec theme of course! :lol!:

. Great tip! That worked - poor spud sat for a bit and just wheeked at me, he looked scared, but once he eventually got down he tried again and now loves it - so much so I have put a mezzanine level and ramp in their cage and he loves using it - cheers!
