Hi guys, I’ve just noticed my 4.5 year old pig Sunny is limping and not putting any weight on her front left foot. Please see picture attached with her normal right foot for comparison. I’ll be booking a vet appointment in the morning but in the meantime does it look like it could be bumble foot? There’s some kind of peeling skin / calluses but she’s had them for a long time. Also the paw feels a bit warm and swollen.

Any suggestions would be really helpful!

Thanks,

Miranda

I'm not an expert, though I had a piggy who got bumblefoot. My first thought was that it didn't look like bumblefoot, expecting it to be obviously red, but now I thought I could see what looks like a blister on the rear pad. Is that what you can see and feels warm?
A limp could also be caused by a sprain or other slight but painful full injury, I've had those too. Hopefully the vet will be able to quickly diagnose the problem and give you whatever the best medicines are for it 🤞

My guinea pig started limping out of nowhere and she didnt fall from anywhere or bump into anything. She always had red feet but her back left foot had a sort of "scab" or "blister" and sometimes poop would get stuck to it. Taking her to the vet he said it was a foot infection. My best guess is the poop got stuck to the peeling skin/blister and bacteria got into her foot that way. obviously in pain so therefore limping. Vet gave me antibiotics (bactrim) and painkiller (metacam). Also i soak her feet with Chlorhexidine but i hear some owners use epsom salt. After a week and a half she is no longer limping.

Hi

The foot looks like its having very beginning of harmless spurs (dead skin growths that grow on the sides of pads) or there could be dead skin. I can't see the tpyical red/hot patch of infected skin or a sign of a scab as the next stage.

Please be aware that limping can result from a sprained joint at any point of the leg right up to the shoulder/spine. These milder and stronger sprains or twisted joints are not at all uncommon in active piggies.
In a break, the foot can no longer push back when you gently push against the sole of the foot; the leg is also unable to bear the weight.

All the best.
