In my Guinea Pig's shed mainly! LOL
**some

Okay so I had some slippers on and they have a bit of ribbon on (a bit silky), about 2cm in width, and long.
I was putting some more hay in and wasn't looking... I turned around to find Lil eating it! I freaked out, and I know I should have been watching. I feel so guilty. :'(
She's eat around 1cm (x2cm) of it... she seems okay, she eat some hay and now shes sleeping with her sisters. Should I take her to the vets? This was about half an hour ago, and she seems like normal so far. :S
How long does it take for a guinea pigs digestive system to pass things through?

Should I be concerned about this much of ribbon being ate? I'm such a terrible mummy! :'(

Please help!

A length of ribbon that size shouldn't have any trouble passing through the intestine, if there's going to be a problem, it's likely to be passing it with faeces. I'd call your vet, they will have an answer machine message to tell you what to do for emergency advice, and they won't charge for telephone advice, so I'd advise you call them!

I would be inclined to agree with Amanda, it shouldn't be a problem but to put your mind at rest give the vet a call

One of my pigs once ate an entire 4cm long tassle off one of my scarves and she was fine.

Any update on Lily?

Sorry I didn't reply yesterday, spent most of the day in the shed watching her. Well, good news; she seems her usual perky self, and my cousins partner is studying to become a veterinarian nurse, and she said the digestive system takes around 13-30 hours, and it's been more than that and she still seems fine... and she's eating aswell so I'm guessing she's not constipated. :(|)

Thank you for the advice guys - I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have GPF! Haha. :)

Glad she's doing well!

I'm guessing that you haven't seen her pass the ribbon yet?

It's going to need to come out, as if it stays in there she's at risk of infection and things. Is she housed with other pigs? It might be an idea to separate her in such a way that she can still see and talk to her friends, so that you can monitor her poos, how much she's eating etc. over the next few days. I really think you should at least speak to a vet, as there may be implications if she doesn't pass the ribbon.

I haven't seen her pass it, no, but it's been a few weeks now, and she's been her normal self now ever since. I've read it takes around several days to pass it, and if it was stuck she surely would have shown some sign of pain. So yeah, I think she is fine. :)

It should pass between 8-20 hrs, keep an eye on her poops. And if she seems under the weather get her to a vet asap. If your worried then get a vet to give her a check over. Dont feel bad, this kind of thing happens to us all.

x.
